A lifetime PGA Professional, David’s career spans decades across coaching, tournament play and course management. A former Head Professional at Royal Fremantle Golf Club and Araluen Golf Resort, he is known throughout Western Australia for his clear, classical approach to the golf swing and for developing innovative event formats and education programmes that blend history with modern insight.
His philosophy is simple: keep the game human.
A former trainee of Richard Brain.
Jim Heron has taught golf across Australia and South-East Asia, earning respect for his clarity of instruction and deep understanding of body movement. Having trained under Richard Brain and shared fairways with some of the game’s finest teachers, Jim brings a rare blend of wisdom, calm and timeless perspective to his coaching — always returning to rhythm, balance and feel.
Together, David and Jim present Waltzing Around the Golf Course not as a new method, but as a restoration of an old truth.
They write not as theorists, but as teachers shaped by experience, carrying forward the legacy of Richard Brain and the PGA professionals who believed that simplicity, rhythm and honesty are the pillars of every great golf swing.
Acknowledgment
To every PGA member, past and present, who stands on the range, club in hand, teaching with patience and integrity:
You are the custodians of the game’s enduring knowledge.
May this booklet remind you of the art behind the science, the feel behind the formula, and the unchanging rhythm that continues to define golf’s greatest teachers.
Every great golf swing, like every great dance, moves with rhythm, flow, and purpose.
In a waltz, there is a leader and a follower.
In golf, it is no different.
The body is the leader.
The club is the follower.
When the body leads, the swing flows in harmony.
When the club tries to lead, rhythm breaks.
This book explains why the greatest swings in history were never forced — they were revealed.
From grip to follow-through, each chapter restores clarity to the fundamentals of the golf swing — blending philosophy with practical precision.
“The grip is the handshake between you and the club.” Learn how your body — not just your hands — determines your correct grip.
Understanding how turn and return create effortless power.
Impact is the crescendo. The follow-through is the applause. A balanced finish tells the truth of everything that came before.
Confidence is rhythm remembered. Not noise — silence. Not bravado — balance.
Each chapter blends philosophy with practical clarity.
After decades of teaching across Australia and South-East Asia, we found ourselves asking a simple question:
Between launch monitors, biomechanics, and endless swing theories, we noticed something was quietly disappearing — rhythm.
This book began not in a boardroom, but in conversation.
It grew from reflection, from memory, and from the influence of great teachers like Richard Brain, who reminded us:
“You don’t teach golf. You teach rhythm.”
And that journey became Waltzing Around the Golf Course.

Hello,
Greetings from Canada! I wanted to reach out after finishing your book this morning, and I have to say it truly was a fantastic read. Your fresh approach to the game really resonated with me, especially since I consider myself very much a “feel” player. Right from the very first paragraph, you had my full attention.
I was so impressed that I didn’t stop at just reading it myself—I’ve actually ordered two more copies. One is for my oldest golf buddy, who I know will appreciate your insights just as much as I did. The other is for a member of our regular group who, unfortunately, has recently undergone a very serious surgery and won’t be able to play this year. I thought your book would be the perfect way for him to stay connected to the game and the group while he recovers.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion in such an engaging way. We are planning on returning to Australia soon and I look forward to having an opportunity to play a round of golf with you.
All the best.
